Your Guide Karen Chester

Karen and Dr Johnson at The Anchor, Bankside

My name is Karen Chester. I was born in Canada and grew up in rural Ontario. I first came to London on a holiday in 1976 and I was hooked. I fell in love with the history, energy and humour of this great city. A few years later I returned for another visit and I've been here ever since!

I'm a fully trained and registered City of London Guide Lecturer, accredited by City University and the Institute of Tourist Guiding. I received my treasured City Badge from the hands of the Lord Mayor himself  in 2004. I am the Guides Co-ordinator for Guildhall Art Gallery, and for the Harold Samuel Bequest of Dutch pictures in Mansion House.

I have a BA in Fine Arts, a BA (Hons) History and an MA in Early Modern English History. I've served on the committee of the Early Modern Society at Birkbeck College, as Treasurer for the Central London Branch of the Historical Association and as Administrator for the Friends of the City Churches.  I am also founding governor of The Square Mile Society.

I have lived here now for over 30 years and I'm still passionate about London. I believe that this is the greatest city in the world and I would love to share it with you.
