The Poxy, Flaming Pub Walk ©
London life in the calamitous seventeenth century

In the 1600s, the people of London lurched from catastrophe to catastrophe: religious strife, a bitter Civil War, recurring plague and the Great Fire that would ultimately lay waste to four fifths of the City. Big Smoke takes you on a walk around the City of London in a 'World Turned Upside-Down'.

Meet: Mansion House underground station – Exit 4  (at street level on Bow Lane, in front of St Mary Aldermary Church). Fair or foul weather!

Walk lasts: about 2 1/2 hours – stopping in genuine 17th-century pubs along the way

Cost: £7 per person – pay your guide at the start of the walk

Your guide: Karen Chester is a fully trained and registered City of London Guide Lecturer, and will be wearing the prestigious City Badge.

So that everyone can enjoy walking in comfort and safety, Big Smoke reserves the right to limit numbers. First come, first served!
